Mary Beth Box graduated with “Highest Honors” from Calhoun High in 2012. During her high school career, she competed at the Junior Olympic level of USA Gymnastics where she was a star gymnast winning multiple state titles on the vault, balance beam and the floor exercise. Box qualified for the National Invitational Tournament in 2009 and 2011. In 2010, she represented Georgia as a Region 8 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Team member.
Mary Beth ‘walked on’ to the University of Georgia ‘Gymdogs’ gymnastic team, a perennial powerhouse program in 2012, and was named a National First-Team All-American on Balance Beam in 2014 and Floor Exercise in 2015. She was also named to the All-SEC team in 2015 and awarded SEC Specialist of the Week in 2016.
During her spectacular college career at UGA, Box won the ‘UGA Kathy McMinn Consistency Award’ (2016), the ‘UGA Sam Sheehan Spirit Award’ (2015), the ‘UGA Most Improved Gymnast Award’ (2014), the ‘UGA Most Inspirational Performance of the Year Award’ (2013), and was nominated for the NCAA ‘Woman of the Year’. She was also a recipient of the Suzanne A. Yoculan Gymnastics Scholarship, the Jennifer Moree Gymnastics Scholarship, and Caterpillar Inc. Scholar Athlete Award.
In all, she was a six-time All-American and a two-time First-Team All-American. Box was named to the SEC Honor Roll in 2014, 2015 and 2016; all while serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the gymnastics representative and UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors as a student-athlete representative. She represented UGA in a TV commercial that ran during the 2016-17 years.
Box graduated from UGA with a bachelor of business administration in Marketing and went on to earn a Master of Science in Kinesiology, Sports Management and Policy in 2017. She worked as a graduate assistant for UGA Gymnastics in marketing and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Gymdog Legacy Club. She has also volunteered for the Special Olympics, Atlanta Track Club, AthHalf and numerous other organizations.
Mary Beth Box is the daughter of Brent and Cheryl Box, of Calhoun, and has three siblings, including brothers JB and John, and sister Mariel, who also competed for the UGA Gymnastics team. Mary Beth currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
